Even in choppy economic waters, Himmarshee Bar & Grille, the historic Fort Lauderdale restaurant whose name means “new water” in Native American, is breaking sales records. On a Saturday night in late January, the eatery served more diners than it ever had in its entire 12-year history! A well-planned and executed public relations, marketing and social media campaign is a big part of the reason.

Press Release
(Fort Lauderdale, FL – December 12, 2009)
Following three successful Twitter-powered wine-tasting event at nationally-recognized Himmarshee Bar & Grill in Fort Lauderdale, a special holiday edition is scheduled for Monday, December 28, 2009.
Hosted by Matthew Horbund, local wine expert and regular guest on Daytime TV, the wine tastings – branded as “Twineups” by Jan due to the use of Twitter as the primary promotional platform – have drawn crowds from as far as West Palm Beach and South Beach to sample a trio of dazzling wines and delicious appetizers selected and prepared by Himmarshee Bar & Grill’s renowned Chef Chris Miracolo.
“Our last Twineup wine-tastings sold out almost immediately,” noted Chef Chris, who is looking forward to preparing special appetizers inspired by the holidays to pair with a trio of wines that will include red and white, specially chosen by wine-loving restaurant owner Dave Nicholas.
“Having a tasting during the holidays is a special treat for me,” noted Matthew, the wine expert. “Wine is appropriate for almost any occasion, but especially so during the end of year holiday season.”
The cost of admission is just $15 and includes three wines and three appetizers. The party atmosphere includes raffles for prizes, and each guest gets half off dinner entrees at the restaurant.
“Twitter has broken the mold for generating ‘buzz’ about an event,” notes Jan, who handles PR and marketing for the boho-chic downtown dining destination. “Word-of-mouth spreads on the Twineups so quickly that it’s a really cost-and-time-efficient strategy. We expect great response, as we’ve seen from past events.”
